Kerosene Wagon conversions
Conversions from a Lledo Oil Wagon
At Christmas, Chevron service stations usually offer Lledo die-cast vehicles from Standard-Oil's past. Around 1993, they offered a horsedrawn kerosene/oil wagon which formed the basis of three conversions. The original wagon is at lower left. A simple repaint (lower right) created a gasoline wagon for the German aerodrome, which could also serve as a water wagon on desert treks. The two wagons in the background are described more fully below.

Boer and supply wagonsBoer Wagon and Supply Wagon
are made from the Lledo kerosene wagon. The tanks were removed and the wagons were sprayed with grey primer. The Boer wagon (left) was painted in typical green with red wheels. For the top, bows were cut from shim brass and facial tissue stiffened with dilute white glue was draped over them for the cloth top.

The supply wagon (right) got a top from a Matchbox toy truck, after having the decorative shape removed from its sides with a razor saw or motor tool. It has a new seat and footboard of balsa.

are repainted Lledo die-casts from the "Days Gone" line. The Parcel Delivery Van on the right is really too modern -- note the automotive-tired wheels, but nobody has mentioned it yet. As a bonus both vehicles come with plastic drivers. The one in the small van even has a dog.

vansOther Lledo Diecasts
suitable for gaming conversion, include an omnibus, a parcel van, and a fire pumper. All are from the "Days Gone" range.

2-wheeled ambulance British Ambulance Cart
was scratchbuilt from balsa and foamcore, with wheels from a plastic toy bicycle.
The figure is "[Somebody] the Healer" from Mithril's Middle Earth line, painted as a nurse.

Baggage TrainBritish Camel Train
features pack camels and mules from some medieval or fantasy line, with some more Victorian-looking additions to their loads.
Converted by David. Figures are small 25s, painted by Steve.

ElephantElephant
is made from a soft plastic toy, with a posterboard howdah. The elephant's back is heavily notched to accommodate the standing figures. For information on the conversion and the construction of ceremonial and hunting howdahs, click here.
Built by David. Figures are Foundry's large 25s.
