Though she was never an outstanding performer on the water, she proved her worth on land at the battle of Al Bunrab, where she withstood the HMLS Sinuous' attacks by ramming, spar torpedo and bicycle torpedo, ultimately capturing the British landship by boarding.

USLS Lexington was the USA's second land ironclad design, a heavy landship with high treads and gun sponsons. ![]() The period photo shows a rear view. Similar in design to HMLS Behemoth and sharing some of her operational problems, plus a high center of gravity which limited her ability to traverse very uneven ground, Lexington's survival, essentially intact, of the SMGS Wilhelmina von Holstein's ram and spar torpedo attack so impressed observers, that she became the progenitor for the largest class of vessels in the US Landfleet. |
